Making her career debut at Gulfstream Park under Tyler Gaffalione, Shakacan sprinted to the early lead in the $47,000 maiden special, continued on in front, and notched the victory by three-quarters of a length. It was another 8 1/4 lengths back to the third-place finisher. The filly bred by former FTBOA president Phil Matthews and his wife, Karen, was clocked in 57.12 for the 5 furlongs and collected a check for $29,000. At the end of the day, Gone Astray was back on top of the money standings with $122,813 in the bank, and his four winners were tied for first nationally with three others, including champion Uncle Mo.
