For consignors selling four or more horses, Northwest Stud was second by average at Tuesday's opening session of the OBS March Sale of 2-year-olds in training. Northwest sold two colts and two fillies for $1,520,000, an average of $380,000, which was double the average for the session, at which 160 head sold for $30,540,000, an average of $190,875. Northwest boasted of the co-third-highest sale of the day when HIP No. 139, a chestnut filly by Bellamy Road out of the Not For Love mare For Royalty, went for $800,000 to Solis and Litt. The filly had scorched the OBS track with a 9.4-second eighth at the under-tack show. HIP No. 201 was second best for Northwest, with the colt by Awesome Again out of the Allen's Prospect mare Im Out First being hammered down for $400,000 to one of the leading owners in the country, Charlotte Weber's Live Oak Plantation. He had worked an eighth in 10.1 seconds. The other two sales were HIP No. 175, a colt by Flatter out of the Dixie Union mare Grecourt Gates, who sold for $190,000 to Bucky Stable, and HIP No. 281, an Awesome Again filly out of the Classic Account mare Miss Fontana, who sold for $130,000 to Ben McElroy. The latter two also worked an eighth in 10.1.
