GONE ASTRAY CONTINUES TO SIZZLE IN AUGUST HEAT

Gone Astray's August success continued into the final weekend, highlighted by another stakes-placed effort by Bullet Gone Astray. The 3-year-old colt finished a fast-closing third in the $75,000 Groomstick Stakes at Gulfstream Park, despite making a right turn leaving the gate and finding himself 11 lengths behind after half a mile. The big finish was worth $7,425 and raised his earnings to $187,235 on a record of 3-1-5 in 16 starts. Bullet Gone Astray has been stakes-placed four times so far this year . . . Two races later, Gone Till Dawn turned in a powerful front-running performance in just her second start, cruising to the wire by 2 1/4 lengths with Eduardo Nunez. The 2-year-old filly raced five furlongs in :58.15 and became her sire's 32nd winner of 2016. She paid $49.80 while collecting a check for $24,000 . . . Sweet Abdication nearly made it back-to-back winners for Gone Astray in the next race, leading into deep stretch in a maiden race at one mile on the turf. The 2-year-old filly finished a strong second and earned $5,000 as Gone Astray's progeny earnings soared to $1,259,656, with several more prospects on tap for today . . . Flashstorm also has a sharp 2-year-old filly in Mexico named Daenne, who captured the Gr. II Hipodromo De Las Americas on Aug. 20.
