Gone Astray celebrated the upcoming holiday season with a Gr. I stakes-placed runner as Abar Caterpillar belied his name with a fast-closing third in the mile and one-sixteenth Clasico Agustin Mercado Reveron Stakes at Camarero Race Track in Puerto Rico. The 2-year-old gelding bred by Diomar Iadasernia finished fifth in his career debut, but has since compiled a record of 1-3-1 in five subsequent starts. Abar Caterpillar was a $22,000 OBS yearling in 2015, consigned by Northwest Stud . . . At Sunland Park in New Mexico, Passinaflash was a hot item from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, winning by a head with six furlongs in a solid 1:10.90 after a rash of late money knocked his price down from 8-1 to 2-1. The 4-year-old Flashstorm colt, who had finished fifth behind Dortmund in his 2-year-old Santa Anita debut in 2014, sat third on the rail in the early going, moved four wide on the turn to reach contention, then ran down Kingsbury in deep stretch to prevail at the wire. Bred by Northwest Stud, Passinaflash sports a record of 4-3-3 in 22 starts.
