Three Rules continues to rule the roost after his annihilation of the field in the seven-furlong, $300,000 Affirmed division of the Florida Sire Stakes at Gulfstream Park yesterday. The 2-year-old colt by Gone Astray is now 4-for-4, with three stakes victories, and the $180,000 winner's check for Shade Tree Thoroughbreds increased his total for the year to $380,640, most of any juvenile colt or gelding in North America this season. Cornelio Velasquez sent Three Rules out quickly from the No. 7 post and he engaged Herecomesthedude early, taking over the lead on the turn and opening up by seven lengths in the stretch. He reached the wire 5 1/2 lengths in front with his rider sitting still for the last sixteenth and has won his four races by a combined total of 21 lengths. Next for the colt in the three-race series is the $500,000 In Reality division at 1 1/16 miles to be run on Oct. 1. Three Rules will attempt to become only the ninth colt to sweep the series since its inception at Calder Race Course in 1982, joining a formidable list that includes such Florida stalwarts as Smile, Seacliff, Jackson Bend, Fort Loudon and Big Drama. Gone Astray's progeny earnings for the year jumped to $1,462,328, while his total for two seasons reached $2,095,109.
