Three Rules is Gr. II stakes-placed once again after his game third-place finish in the Fountain of Youth Stakes yesterday at Gulfstream Park. The 3-year-old Gone Astray colt led for three-quarters of a mile with even-money favorite Irish War Cry nipping at his heels. Three Rules was able to repel the Holy Bull Stakes winner, but the pace took its toll and the Holy Bull runner-up, Gunnevera, was able to sweep by for the victory. Three Rules might still have held for second but he was pinned to the rail for the length of the stretch by Practical Joke, the third-place finisher in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, and wound up one-half length out of the place spot. He earned a check for $38,000 and raised his career total to $778,240 on a record of 5-1-1 in eight starts . . . At Santa Anita, Gone Astray picked up his 14th winner of 2017 when Princess Marie broke her maiden in her sixth start and lit up the tote board at $93.20. The 3-year-old filly came from off the pace under Israel Ocampo in the six-furlong race, moved inside for the stretch run, and was up by a nose at the wire in a three-horse photo with the two favorites. She collected $12,600 for her initial score and Gone Astray's total for the year jumped to $333,419.
