There was no surprise at the FTBOA's annual awards gala last night as Three Rules walked off with a pair of honors - Florida's Horse of the Year and Champion 2-year-old colt or gelding. The son of Gone Astray won five of six races in 2016, four of them stakes, including becoming the ninth horse to sweep the Florida Sire Stakes - the Dr. Fager, Affirmed and In Reality. He earned $700,640 for his owners and breeders, Shade Tree Farm, Geoff Roy and Tom Fitzgerald. In addition, Gone Astray was honored as Florida's Leading Juvenile Sire . . . At the racetrack, Dazzling Dixie went wire-to-wire in a six-furlong test at Gulfstream Park. The 3-year-old filly battled on the front end throughout under Nicky Figueroa and proved to be best in the stretch, winning by three-quarters of a length and earning a check for $12,000 . . . At Oaklawn Park, Lisa's Premier broke her maiden under Julio Felix, getting six furlongs in 1:12.26 and collecting a check for $13,800. The 3-year-old filly stalked the pace in third, went three wide into the turn and was up in the final jump to win by a nose and pay $17.20. . . Gone Astray now has 17 winners this year and is nearing $400,000 in progeny earnings.
