So Far Gone was a poorly-kept secret as she made her career debut at Monmouth Park yesterday. The 3-year-old daughter of Gone Astray, bred by Northwest Stud, was bet down to 6/5 in her first try with Jonathan Gonzales in the irons, even though there were six others in the field with racing experience. So Far Gone battled for the lead on the outside while racing to the first quarter in :22.35, quickly opened up by three after a half in :45.74, then jogged to the wire seven lengths in front to give her sire his 18th winner this year. Gone Astray is less than $17,000 away from the $600,000 mark in 2016 progeny earnings and will have several chances to reach that mark over the weekend with five horses competing at Gulfstream Park, three of them in stakes.
