Melvian Star broke his maiden in his fourth start on Thursday to become the first winner for freshman sire United States. The 2-year-old colt bred by Northwest Stud and owned by Rony E. Pena paid $9.20 after scoring a 1 1/4-length victory over favored Mystery in the Park racing 6 1/2 furlongs at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.
